Become a Groom Curriculum College Instructor
Yes. Our curriculum is both online and hands-on, and most students complete the online portion first. Then, you’ll guide them hands-on using our structured curriculum, from bathing and handling to breed-specific grooming. You’ll also track hours and competency. Instructors model durable skills too, like time management and professionalism.
Yes. Instructors are contracted and paid through the educational institution that partners with Groom
Curriculum. Salon owners may also charge for the grooms completed by students.
No more than 12. The AKC instructor-to-student ratio is 1 instructor : 12 students : 8 live dogs.
Students must complete 180 hands-on hours. Most sessions run 8–15 weeks. Instructors must be able to
commit to a minimum of 12 hours per week. Example schedules include M/W/F 4–8pm or Sat/Sun full days.
All instructors must complete our Train the Trainer session before teaching. This includes Zoom-based LMS training from the student’s view, with a focus on durable skills. Instructors are also required to complete the Groom Curriculum Verified Instructor Pathway, which includes the AKC S.A.F.E. Groomer Certificate, AKC Professional Groomer Credential, and AKC Coat Type Certification.
